I Rheinland-Pfalz sex berömda vinodlingsdistrikt produceras över 70 % av Tysklands viner. Vinet är mycket omtyckt såväl inom som utom landets gränser och populariteten bara stiger: här finns allt från pärlande Riesling, som frodas i de branta skiffersluttningarna längs Mosel, till Spätburgunder (Pinot noir) från Tysklands nordligaste och ändå mest kända rödvinsdistrikt Ahr.
Som så mycket annat i Rheinland-Pfalz var det romarna som för över 2000 år sedan tog med sig vinstockarna hit och började odla vin på de soldränkta sluttningarna.
